One of Saskatoon’s major construction projects causing traffic delays is moving out earlier than expected.
Repairs on Circle Drive northbound over 33rd Street were expected to continue into mid-September, but thanks to favourable conditions, the area will open up to full traffic capacity five weeks ahead of schedule.
“We are extremely pleased to have this work completed, and a return to normal traffic use, sooner than expected,” Todd Grabowski, city manager of asset preservation for bridges said in a news release Friday.
“The near perfect weather and the fact that we encountered no major issues allowed us to accelerate our schedule and move ahead of where we expected to be at this point in the project.”
Work on the project began July 3. It included removing and replacing asphalt and expansion joints, repairs to concrete barriers and an application of a waterproofing membrane. Upon further inspection, no major work was needed for the Circle Drive southbound overpass.
According to a press release from the city, approximately 20,000 vehicles pass over the Circle Drive over 33rd Street northbound overpass.
