When the relationship between athletes and fans blow up, we are quick to report on it, and react to it.
Yesterday I mentioned that Vernon Adams Jr. had a falling out with the Alouette faithful.
By the way, Adams Jr. apologized to the fans for an outburst earlier this week.
Now for something totally different.
Yesterday in Lashburn, Saskatchewan, the relationship between athlete and fan was remarkable. One twitter video showed cars and a long line of fans outside of the Lashburn Arena as fans waited to get a glimpse of the Stanley Cup and see Stanley Cup champion, and more importantly, hometown hero Braden Holtby.
Fortunately, this received lots of attention on the news, and on social media.
Holtby was thrilled to see old coaches, teammates and friends. Fans who knew Braden, or had their first encounter with him, met one of the most grounded athletes in sport.
It’s great to observe, report on and react to a functional athlete-fan relationship.
