Saskatoon police used a taser on a 29-year-old woman early Tuesday morning.
Police said correctional officers asked them to come to the provincial Women’s Community Training Residence at 123 La Ronge Road around 1:30 a.m.
Officers were told the woman had barricaded herself in her room at the facility. When police arrived, she allegedly broke a window and armed herself with what a police media release described as a “dagger-shaped shard of glass” before climbing out onto a first-storey roof.
The woman then allegedly jumped off the roof and began threatening to cut herself with the glass.
Police said one of the responding officers then opted to use a Taser to subdue and then disarm her.
The woman was taken to hospital with injuries police said were sustained from when she jumped off the roof.
Saskatoon Police Service policy requires any use of a Taser to be reviewed and reported to the public.
