Severe storm system moves through Saskatchewan

Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm watches and warnings through the day Saturday as a system with two waves of storms moved across the province.

“With those thunderstorms, we are expecting strong winds, larger hail and heavy downpours,” Environment Canada’s Heather Pimiskern told 650 CKOM.

The first wave of storms seemed to hit the Davidson area the hardest Saturday morning.

“We have had a few reports of quarter-sized hail with those storms,” she said. “We have also noticed that there’s some training, so the storms are passing over the same regions time and again.”

According to Pimiskern, that has led to reports of flash flooding.

As the storm continued to move from west to east Pimiskern expected Environment Canada would likely issue watches and warnings closer to the Manitoba border.

She recommends anyone affected by the storm to report it to Environment Canada by tweeting #skstorm or by phone at 1-800-239-0484.
