A 70-year-old man is dead after a boat he was in capsized on Wollaston Lake in northern Saskatchewan.
Wollaston Lake RCMP said in a release Monday they received reports around 4 p.m. Sunday of a pleasure-craft boat capsizing on the lake.
Three people who were in the boat were rescued by the staff of a nearby business, while a man from Hatchet Lake First Nation drowned.
RCMP said the name of the 70-year-old wouldn’t be released, and didn’t say what caused the capsizing or drowning.
Wollaston Lake is located approximately 375 kilometres northeast of La Ronge.
The death happened on the first day of Saskatchewan’s provincially-declared “drowning prevention week.”
The province is reminding people to always swim with a friend, keep children within arms’ reach and refrain from drinking alcohol while on or in the water.
