A new text scam is making the rounds with a message that may seem enticing for SaskTel customers.
Saskatoon police say the scam texts —claiming to be from SaskTel— tell customers they’ve been over-billed.
In some cases, the text says the refund will be revealed on their next bill and directs the customer to click on a link to confirm.
Police said in other cases, the customer is directed to click on a link to receive the refund by direct deposit. To complete the fraudulent process, the customer is then taken through the steps of sending money in order to receive the refund.
Police are warning the public not to send money to any unverified source and to ask confirmation questions before sending anyone money.
People are reminded not to click on any links from an unverified source. Instead, delete the message and contact the service provider.
