4 arrested after stolen vehicle chase closes Hwy 14: RCMP

RCMP say a stolen truck chase that started in Saskatoon early Wednesday morning led to Highway 14 being shut down east of Biggar for several hours.

In a statement, Biggar RCMP said the incident began around 3:40 a.m. after a stolen Ford F-350 truck was being pursued by Saskatoon police.

Officers tired to stop the truck by using a spike belt on Highway 14 just outside the city.

Two of the tires were blown, but the truck continued on its rims towards Biggar — going between 20 to 40 km/h along the way.

Around 5 a.m. Biggar RCMP tried a second spike belt just east of town. The truck managed to avoid it, but ended up stuck in a ditch.

Police said people inside the truck refused to get out, so RCMP and Saskatoon police surrounded the vehicle and closed off public access to the highway.

After five-and-a-half hours of negotiations, four people got out and were taken into custody.

Saskatoon police confirmed Wednesday night two men, aged 22 and 27 and two women, 18 and 20, face 15 charges.

Those charges include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evading police, and possession of stolen property.
