Berkly Catton, Brayden Yager, Caden Price and Tanner Howe were all named.
Prior to last season there were rumours that Chris Jones had his sights
set on quarterback James Franklin, who played for him in Edmonton.
Some thought Jones would wait for Franklin’s contract in Edmonton to end, then bring him in to succeed Kevin Glenn under centre.
Now Franklin is in Toronto, while the Riders work with Brandon Bridge.
The backup quarterback on any CFL team doesn’t generate headlines unless the starter gets hurt.
Ironically, both Toronto and Saskatchewan find themselves in compromising positions.
Ricky Ray will be out for an extended period of time after being hurt last Saturday, while Zach Collaros had to go through concussion protocol on Thursday after coming out of the RedBlacks game.
Franklin is not a Rider, but an Argo. Bridge is out to prove that Canadians can be valuable quarterbacks in the CFL.
We may soon find out which team, Toronto or Saskatchewan, has more depth at the number two quarterback spot. Suddenly, this is newsworthy.
