Four lives lost in La Loche

Grief in La Loche stretches across the country as the four people killed in Friday afternoon’s shooting are being identified.

Marie Janvier, 21, the teaching assistant at the La Loche Community School’s Dene High School, was killed. A second teacher, Adam Wood, 35, was also killed. Wood moved from Ontario to Saskatchewan in September and had just begun his career.

Wood’s family released a statement to the media.

“Adam had just begun his teaching career in La Loche last September and was enjoying his time. Adam was quite an adventurer, had a passion for life, and would often make you laugh until your stomach hurt. He was always up for a good challenge and lived each day joyously,” it reads.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the other victims, the community of La Loche and everyone who is affected by this tragedy.”

The La Loche community is also mourning two brothers Dayne, 17, and Drayden, 13, Fontaine. They were killed in a residence in La Loche.

“Today was so sudden.. I bet no one ever thought a day like this would come, those Angels who were called home are now safe in the hands of God? Rest in paradise Dayne, Drayden, Marie, Mr. Woods,” posted Hope Shakur on her Facebook page.

On Friday afternoon the high school in La Loche was placed on lockdown after an active shooter was reported. Stars Air Ambulance and local paramedics responded to the scenes. More information on the injured continues to be released.
