Saskatoon police have a man in custody after a stabbing early Thursday morning just outside the city’s downtown core.
Police were called just before 1:30 a.m. with a report of a stabbing in the area of 20th Street West and Avenue D South.
A 32-year-old man had to be taken to hospital with a stab wound to his abdomen. The injury was not believed to be life-threatening.
Police said a witness gave them a description of the suspected attacker and said he was running away from the scene heading east.
Responding officers picked up a 23-year-old man matching that description near the intersection of 20th Street and First Avenue, about five blocks east of the scene of the stabbing.
Police said the suspect hasn’t yet been charged with the stabbing, but is being kept in custody for now on an unrelated warrant.
The alleged victim is reportedly not co-operating with investigators.
