More adult players are now investing in the protective equipment.
Saskatoon’s downtown will one day be home to what Nutrien Ltd. says will be the tallest office building in the province.
The company announced Thursday it will be the anchor tenant of the new Nutrien Tower at the River Landing development in Saskatoon’s Central Business District.
The 18-storey building is planned for Parcel Y, just east of River Landing No. 1.
“We are proud to be a partner in a development that will provide a dynamic new addition to Saskatoon’s cityscape and the cultural experience of the city,” Chuck Magro, Nutrien’s president and CEO, said in a news release.
“Nutrien Tower will provide our employees with a world-class, modern office environment that meets the highest levels of office building sustainability standards.”
The company, created with the merger of Potash Corp and Agrium, will take up the top eight floors of the 18- floor building.
According to Nutrien, the new tower will be environmentally sustainable and energy efficient, with developers targeting LEED Gold Certification.
The company said the building’s high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling exterior windows will optimize natural light. Envisaged amenities include a rooftop winter garden and patio, fitness centre and on-site conference facilities.
The announcement addresses any concerns about Nutrien’s commitment to Saskatchewan, but Magro insisted that wasn’t the driving force behind it’s new office space.
“We made the decision, because if you look at our building we’re in now, we’re bursting at the seams,” he said. “When you look at even what we have in the province, we have almost 120 open positions, 75 open positions in the city alone and we’re growing.”
“We did it because we want to invest in the community.”
Magro said the new building will allow for a workforce of over 400 people, a substantial increase from the 320 at its current office.
With its state-of-the-art features, Magro hopes to use the new facility as a global hub.
“I also think what it’s going to do is allow Nutrien to grab top talent,” Magro said. “It’s going to allow us to have the technology to connect to our U.S. operations, our South American operations, our European operations and really have this centre operating on almost a 24-hour basis, connected to our global platform.”
Nutrien hopes to move into the new development in late 2021 or early 2022.
