I take joy in life’s simple pleasures. I realized that I was part of one on Thursday night, as I watched game five of the Stanley Cup final from start to finish.
I can’t honestly say that I’m a huge Golden Knights fan or a big Capitals fan. I’ve never been part of any fantasy leagues and I haven’t been in a playoff pool for years. I simply took in the game.
The great story lines on each side served as the hook. Vegas has done something no other team has done in the modern era of sport.
That is to advance to the league final. Watching them fight to try live for a another game was fun.
On the other side, the Capitals and their 32-year-old captain played for an opportunity to achieve franchise firsts. In the end, the happiness of a fan base and Alex Ovechkin held me until well after the clock struck zero.
It’s funny how a lack of investment helped me engage in game five, and thoroughly enjoy it.
