I am among many who are stating the obvious today: Braden Holtby’s third period stop on Alex Tuch in game two of the Stanley Cup Final was amazing.
If you are at all a hockey fan you have no doubt seen the save made by Washington’s goaltender.
The stop is also overshadowing two other remarkable things about Holtby’s actions on Wednesday night. First, ten of Holtby’s stops were while the Capitals were shorthanded. That is noteworthy.
Second, Holtby’s performance after the game was just as incredible as his work on the ice.
Holtby was quick to say that on any given night, any of his teammates are capable of stepping up. He just happened to step up in Game 2.
He also tried his best to tell his mates, the media and the fans that it was time to focus on Game 3 coming up in Washington.
That’s a good thought. However, fans are going to be talking about Holtby’s Game 2 efforts for some time.
