The unofficial start to summer has arrived and campers have already begun staking their spots for the Victoria Day long weekend.
Kyle Berezowski has been coming to Pike Lake Provincial Park every May and September long since he started a family.
He considers himself an avid camper, but admits this weekend is always a wildcard.
“It’s always fun getting ready for May — its usually jeans (and) tank tops, or bunny hugs and tank tops, but that’s Saskatchewan for you.”
This year campers won’t need as many layers this year, at least during the day.
Most of the province will be basking in the warm sun this weekend.
Temperatures are expected to be in the high teens to mid 20s for most of Saskatchewan’s popular lake regions.
Pike Lake is expecting around 5,000 visitors to go through its gates this weekend.

“You almost wait and wait and wait until it comes around. Within a month you start getting excited and get your campers ready and everything else.”
Even with rain earlier in the week, fire bans remain in effect in provincial parks this weekend.
No open fires or fireworks are allowed for the duration of the ban. Self-contained heating devices, pressurized stoves, gas barbecues, propane fire pits, or charcoal briquettes used in an approved firebox are allowed for cooking and heating purposes during the ban.
Campers are asked to check with local authorities to see if bans apply where you plan to travel.
Alcohol is also banned at provincial parks for the long weekend. Penalties for consumption are having alcohol poured out, being evicted from your campground and risking banishment.
