The Pittsburgh Penguins honoured a survivor of the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy during Tuesday’s playoff game against the Washington Capitals.
Broncos centre Brayden Camrud got invited to the game at PPG Paints Arena by Saskatoon’s Colby Armstrong, an ex-NHLer who played three seasons with the Penguins from 2005 to 2008.
Camrud, 19, was on board the Broncos team bus when it collided with a semi truck at an intersection just outside Nipawin on April 6, killing 16 people and leaving 13 injured.
The sold-out crowd of 18,387 people at PPG Paints Arena came to its feet when Camrud was shown on the JumboTron during a stoppage in play.

Other NHL teams have also joined the wider hockey community in getting behind the Broncos.
Winnipeg’s Matthieu Gomercic, another player who survived the crash, was invited to Game 5 of his hometown Jets’ first-round series against the Minnesota Wild on April 21.
As of Monday, the Saskatchewan Health Authority reported four people injured in the Broncos bus crash remained in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
