Saskatchewan’s public prosecutors are pressing charges against two construction contractors over the 2016 death of a worker at the site of the new children’s hospital in Saskatoon.
The charges stem from July 24, 2016, when 21-year-old Eric Ndayishimiye was crushed to death by a steel construction lift.
The incident shut down work at the site for three weeks as investigators analyzed what went wrong.
Now, nearly two years later, Saskatoon-based Banff Constructors Ltd. and Calgary-based scaffolding supplier Pilosio Canada Inc. are being charged under the province’s employment act with not properly protecting Ndayishimiye’s well-being.
Main contractor Graham Construction hasn’t been charged.
The two companies are set to appear in Saskatoon provincial court on May 24.
