In sports there is lots to be said for “having nothing to lose.”
The 2006 Edmonton Oilers advanced all the way to the Stanley Cup Final even though they were the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
The Los Angeles Kings upset Gretzky and the Oilers in the first round of the playoffs in the 1982 Miracle On Manchester.
There was also the Miracle On Ice from the 1980 Olympics.
Here we are in 2018, and the Las Vegas Golden Knights are a win away from becoming the first team to advance to round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
I get that this isn’t a surprise when you look at the regular season standings. However, it is when you consider this is an expansion team with no playoff chemistry. The intensity increases, the battles get harder, goals are tougher to come by in the playoffs. Yet, three games in, Las Vegas is up for the challenge.
The only explanation for this domination is that they “have nothing to lose.”
