A fashion show is aiming to raise money and awareness for missing and murdered indigenous women.
The show is called Fashion Speaks. It started in B.C., but its creators hope to take it across Canada and the U.S.
Chelsa Reil was tapped to coordinate the event in Regina.
Twelve indigenous designers from across Canada will show their work with indigenous models.
Reil highlighted one designer, Bruno.
“He is a buck-skin designer. His line is absolutely beautiful.”
The show will feature men and women’s clothing, along with accessories.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Saskatchewan Sisters in Spirit.
Reil said one of the models is going to be speaking as well.
“We have a model, her mother is Melanie Geddes. So she’s going to be speaking about her situation.”
Melanie Geddes went missing from Regina’s north central neighbourhood in 2005. Her body was found a few months later. No one has been charged in her murder.
It will be hosted by Jeff Richards, star of APTN’s “The Other Side,’ and News Talk Radio’s ‘Paranormal.’
The show begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Shumiatcher Open Stage at the University of Regina. Tickets are $25 each.
