A 39-year-old man faces nearly two dozen charges after a police chase late Sunday night.
A patrol unit reportedly spotted a stolen Mazda Tribute around 10 p.m. on the 600 block of 33rd Street West. They followed the vehicle through the Westmount neighbourhood before pulling it over near the intersection of Avenue P and 29th Street.
Police said the driver stopped briefly before speeding away. Officers were able to puncture the Tribute’s tires using a stop stick before backing off from the chase over fears for public safety.
The Tribute was found abandoned a few minutes later on the 400 block of Avenue R South. A K9 unit then helped track down and arrest the suspect.
Police said a search of the Tribute turned up two shotguns, a set of brass knuckles, a stolen license plate and other property.
The suspect faces 23 charges including counts of dangerous driving, evading police, weapons offences and possession of stolen property.
Police said the man also had outstanding warrants from a similar incident last month.
The suspect was due to appear Monday morning in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
