One Rush fan left in race for perfect bracket

One Saskatchewan Rush fan has another reason to cheer the team on for the rest of the season.

Craig Hinz is the last person standing in the lacrosse team’s season-long bracket challenge, beating out 3,256 other entrants.

The Saskatoon-based accountant has successfully predicted who would win every Rush game so far this season, including their two losses.

“I’m not really sure how that happened,” he told 650 CKOM. “But hey, I’ll ride it as far as it will go.”

While Hinz is the only one left in the challenge, he isn’t victorious yet.

In order for him to win the grand prize of $100,000 and a new truck, his pre-season predictions for the rest of the season and the playoffs have to come true.

Hinz is calling for the Rush to win a third championship, with only one more loss in their six remaining regular season games.

He’s chosen April 7 against the Colorado Mammoth as the losing date.

“I’m not happy I picked one against (the Rush),” Hinz said. “But I certainly wouldn’t mind if they lost that one.”

The season ticket holder said he hopes the team will see his picks as motivation to bring the championship back to Saskatchewan.

If he wins the bracket, he knows how he’ll spend some of the cash.

“Certainly plan a trip of some kind,” he said.

He knows the odds are against him, but he’s okay with that.

“I’m just happy I’ve made it this far.”
