Saskatoon Crime Stoppers has released surveillance video in an effort to solve an arson investigation into a fire at a city nightclub.
The Matriarch Nightclub and Event Centre at 1201 Alberta Avenue suffered about $2 million in damage after a fire on Dec. 12, 2017. Police issued an update Feb. 6 saying they believed arson to be the cause of the blaze.
Footage released Thursday shows a suspect moving through the club in the dark, unaided by a flashlight, then lighting a garbage can on fire before re-positioning it in an apparent effort to cause more damage.
The suspect is described as male, about five feet 11 inches tall and wearing a dark coat and light clothing.
He likely would have smelled heavily of smoke on the day of the fire.
Footage from the exterior of the club shows a dark-coloured car, possibly a Pontiac or Chevrolet, believed to have been used by the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Saskatoon police or Crime Stoppers.
