A City of Saskatoon report has listed the city’s worst intersections.
A table of 20 intersections is included in a report headed to the city’s standing policy committee on transportation on Monday.
The list ranks the intersections based on collisions and the average delay experienced by drivers. The report explains that from there, priorities for fixes get set based on the ranking combined with how an intersection fits in with other plans, such as the North Commuter Parkway bridge project.
Coming in at the top of the list for crashes and wait times was the intersection of 51st Street and Warman Road.
Administration is asking the city for $850,000 to improve traffic flow through the intersection in 2016, before the North Commuter Parkway bridge gets built.
Preston Avenue and College Drive came in at the second spot on the list. 51st Street and Miller rounded out the top three.
The list in the report also includes recommendations for action for each intersection. In a majority of cases, administration recommends waiting for recommendations from the Growth Plan due in March, or conducting future reviews.
For 2016, along with the $850,000 in upgrades for Warman Road and 51st Street, the city’s administration is asking for $50,000 to fund an internal review and prepare a plan for the intersection of 51st Street and Millar Avenue. They’re also asking for $350,000 for upgrades at 22nd Street and Diefenbaker Drive.
Administration is also pursuing two projects that don’t come out of the rankings for collisions and delays. The first is at Taylor Street and Preston Avenue, where planners want $200,000 to adjust the lane alignment and add east-west left turn bays. The second project is on Taylor Street and Arlington Avenue. Administration is requesting $300,000 to extend the eastbound curb lane and add a second receiving lane.
