Unbroken, a television documentary which aired earlier this week, gave Canada a better perspective on Mark McMorris’ incredible journey to the 2018 games in Pyeongchang.
Cameras were there as McMorris laid motionless in the snow outside of Whistler less than a year ago. A collapsed lung, ruptured spleen and pelvis, and a broken arm and jaw were just some of the injuries he suffered.
Parents, brother, family and friends weren’t worried about McMorris returning to the slopes, they were worried about his survival as he was taken to a Vancouver
hospital last March.
Not only was physical rehab required, but so was mental strength. McMorris had to grapple with the reality that the sport he had done so much for had dealt him this nearly fatal blow.
There has been a recovery of body and mind. McMorris is a winner, regardless of the results in South Korea.
