It was a rude awakening for some in Saskatchewan.
The southern half of the province, stretching from Saskatoon down to the border, was under an extreme cold warning for much of Sunday morning.
Mark Melsness with Environment Canada said there was a ridge of high pressure stretching from the Yukon through southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan, bringing with it temperatures of minus 25 to minus 30 Sunday morning.
Wind chills were expected to be in the minus 40 or colder range with the extreme conditions easing Sunday afternoon.
According to Melsness, Saskatchewan wasn’t alone in the cold as a good chunk of the country is covered in cold warnings.
