Dumping in snow storage to cost users in Regina

It may be a little early to be thinking about and discussing snow, but that’s exactly what Regina city council will be doing Monday night at its regular meeting.

A recommendation is on the table to require users of the city’s snow storage site to pay. Administration wants to adopt a pay-per-load fee system based on the size of the truck hauling the snow. It would mean the site would be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week from November to March each year.

Site users would have to pay a one-time fee of $10 for a permit. Then, depending on size, another $5-$35 per load. Site improvements would be made under this option. That includes upgrades and installation of proper lighting, roads and fences, along with improved drainage.

Staff estimate this option could bring in $528,000 per year. However, it would cost $880,000 to implement.

The city will also discuss a new residential-commercial development known as Tower Crossing in the east end of the city along Victoria Avenue East.
