The Saskatoon Blades pulled together a 4-3 overtime win in the teams first meeting with the Regina Pats since the trade deadline.
Eric Florchuck scored an unassisted goal 9:17 into the first period to give the Blades the early lead.
Chase Wouters followed it up with help from Braylon Shmyr and Josh Paterson to put Saskatoon up 2-1 with less than four minutes left in the first.
That’s when the Pats, with the help of some former Blades, stormed back.
Libor Hajek, who went to Regina in a trade earlier this month, got an assist on the team’s late first-period goal.
Former Blade Cameron Hebig tied it up 5:32 into the second and assisted Sam Steel for a 3-2 lead at the end of the period.
Saskatoon battled back with a third-period goal to tie the game and force overtime.
Florchuck got the game-winner in overtime for a 4-3 Blades win.
There’s not much time to celebrate. The Blades host the east division leading Moose Jaw Warriors Sunday afternoon at SaskTel Centre.
