A Saskatoon man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.
Jason Howard Mclean was just shy of his 17th birthday when he made contact online with four girls, aged 13 and 14.
Court documents outline how his relationships with the girls quickly went from friendly chats, to demands for nude photos and videos.
The contact with the girls continued past Mclean’s 18th birthday, leading to his arrest in 2013.
In at least one instance, Mclean threatened to show previously obtained photos to friends or publish them online if he didn’t get more.
While the Crown asked for a six-year sentence, Justice Barry Singer ruled that would be too stiff a penalty.
Noting that pre-sentencing reports deemed McLean a low risk to re-offend and pointing to his lack of any previous criminal record, Singer sentenced McLean to two years in jail, followed by three years’ probation.
McLean, now 20, will be on a sex offender registry for the rest of his life.
