Technology now exists for a virtual strike zone in baseball. Officials could literally check a monitor for balls and strikes. Let’s hope we never go that far.
Striking the balance between the human element of officiating an getting calls right will forever be something professional sports leagues have to do to maintain integrity and fan interest.
