Saskatoon police will be conducting a review of Prince Albert RCMP actions after the death of a man who walked away from a care home on Boxing Day.
The Indigenous man, whose name hasn’t been released by police, walked away from a care home roughly 10 kilometres outside of Prince Albert around 3 p.m. on Dec. 26. The following morning, he was found dead on a nearby grid road.
RCMP said foul play is not suspected, but an external review is being requested to look at their own response to the situation.
“An initial RCMP review of this matter determined that our police response may not have been sufficient,” said in an emailed statement Thursday afternoon.
The external investigation will be conducted by the Saskatoon Police Service, with a Ministry of Justice observer appointed to oversee the matter.
The RCMP said no further information would be released until the results of the reviews are made public “at the appropriate time.”
