Daniel Lundy has just returned from a trip he’ll remember for the rest of his life.
Lundy went with his family to Victoria, B.C., to see the ocean.
While many people many take this trip for granted, seeing the ocean up close was extra special for Lundy. He suffers from a degenerative eye disease called retinal pigmentosa, which affects his peripheral and night vision. Eventually there is a very good probability he will lose his eyesight completely. Lundy’s wish before that happened was to see the ocean.
“Through my faith, there are so many parts of it that people use the ocean to describe just how big and how powerful things are and I really wanted that imagery,” said Lundy.
But his dream seemed out of reach, having recently lost his job with three kids to support.
Lundy’s sister-in-law went to work and started a go-fund-me page. Within a week they had managed to raise about $5,700.
“The way people just stepped up and a good friend of ours too, he stepped up for a mechanic and we just covered the cost for parts and he did all of the labour for free. Anything people could do to help us, they jumped in,” said Lundy.
The Lundy family documented their trip on Facebook, through a special photo gallery called “The Lundy Family Ocean Trip.” The group currently has over 150 members.
When asked to describe what he saw, Lundy said it was everything he had hoped for and more.
“You have sort of a picture in your head just from what other people have said but even pictures and videos don’t do it justice,” he said.
Lundy said he would like to thank everyone who made his wish come true.
