Reginans brace for long federal election campaign

Even though it’s just a few days into the federal election campaign, people in Regina are starting to make a list of priorities they want to see political parties tackle.
 
“Mine isn’t the economy, mine is more social. Mine is certainly First Nations people should be right on there as well as seniors and their health care,” Ingrid Moisuk told News Talk Radio on Tuesday.
 
Agnus Schultz is on the same page.

“Looking after the senior people I think would be my concern.”
 
Others said the economy was a top priority.
 
For Nick Dsnomie, there is one political leader he will not be voting for.

“I’m First Nations so I usually tend to listen to everybody but I’ll probably not vote for Harper,” Dsnomie said. He admitted, though, that he hasn’t been paying much attention to the election so far.
 
“Not so much. I guess it is a big importance to most of the people of who they actually vote for,” said Dsnomie. “I guess I’ll be voting this year but I don’t know yet.”
 
One thing everyone seemed to agree with is the length of the campaign – 11 weeks – is too long.
 
“That’s a long time to listen to what they have to say,” said Schultz. “Maybe people will get tired of listening to it. I’m not sure.”
 
“It’s a long time for politicians to make a mistake. You know, give us a chance to see what happens with Mike Duffy and company and we’ll see where things go,” said Leo Boudreau.
 
The election campaign will be one of the longest in history. Election day is set for October 19.
