The Saskatchewan Rush will be firing shots at a familiar face during their home opener this weekend.
Saturday will see the return of former Rush goalie Aaron Bold, playing his first game in SaskTel Centre as a member of the New England Black Wolves following an offseason trade that saw him swapped for current Rush netminder Evan Kirk.
Rush head coach Derek Keenan told The Brent Loucks Show Friday his squad will be treating Bold’s return just like any other day at the office.
“We’re not going to approach it any differently than we do any game. We’re going to prepare. We’ll have a shooting plan prepared.”
The Rush are coming into the home opener with a 1-0 record after opening their National Lacrosse League (NLL) season by dismantling the Toronto Rock last week on the road.
Keenan said the team will be focused on starting strong as they look to return to the NLL Finals after falling just short to the Georgia Swarm last season.
While Keenan said fans can expect the Rush to continue having plenty of firepower up front, he noted they’ll look to be harder on opponents who venture into their end.
“We’d rather our defence dictate the tempo. We want to try and make teams play fast, make them make mistakes. Then we get to turn it over and go the other way,” he said.
With season ticket sales surpassing 10,000 seats sold this season, Keenan said he’s looking forward to the atmosphere at SaskTel Centre.
“I’m sure they’ll be loud and proud on Saturday night and our guys, they love playing there. It’s a special place to play.”
Game time for the Saskatchewan Rush home opener is 7:30 p.m.
Getting to the game: Transit service times
With thousands of fans looking to get to the stadium and taxi service expected to be at a premium in the run-up to Christmas, the City of Saskatoon is encouraging people to use bus service that will be available before and after the game.
Buses will leave from a special event stop downtown at the corner of 23rd Street East and 2nd Avenue North at the following times on Saturday:
5:45 p.m.
6:00 p.m.
6:20 p.m.
6:35 p.m.
6:55 p.m.
7:10 p.m.
Buses will be waiting for fans after the game. They’ll leave SaskTel Centre as they fill up, which usually happens around 9:15 p.m.
