Wray Morrison: Go Canada — whoever you may be

It was Jan. 7, 2014, when the Canadian Olympic men’s hockey team was announced.

There will far less fanfare in 2018.

We are 59 days away from Canada’s opener at the Winter Olympic games in South Korea.

Without NHL players, this team is not exactly top of mind. Sidney Crosby, Shea Weber and Carey Price may be replaced by players such as Rene Bourque, Stefan Elliot and Ben Scrivens in 2018.

I understand why some are indifferent. There is also the time change to consider – South Korea sits 15 hours ahead of Saskatchewan.

I get it. The talent level from past teams will not be there, but that doesn’t mean the hockey will be any less exciting. Some of Canada’s best hockey moments have come from players who weren’t household names.

As I’ve said before, I support NHL owners who don’t want to shut their doors while the IOC benefits from the league’s star power during the Olympics. I’m also all for the players who will wear Canada’s colours for the love of the game.
