With the rain pouring and the lightning flashes lighting the city like a pictures in a storm scrapbook, Regina dealt with a lot of rain Monday night
The downpour caused puddles to swell along the sides of roads, a few storm drains backing up, and intersections to flood.
However, many people came out to help, giving the storm clouds a silver lining.
The puddle was several inches high in the intersection at McCarthy Boulevard and Brunskill Place in north Regina. Some vehicles turned around, not even attempting to cross, others headed right through. Some of the ones that went through didn’t get very far.
Lynne Gidluck got stuck taking her kids home from the pool.
“We’re driving along McCarthy Boulevard, and then there’s this giant lagoon … I don’t know why I, I probably shouldn’t have gone through it.”
Her silver van was stopped in the middle of the puddle with its lights on, but then a car filled with young strangers stopped to help.
“These charming young gentlemen that are helping me and my children get out of this mess!”
With the help, Gidluck seemed in high spirits.
She said she chose McCarthy specifically to stay away from underpasses, which are known to flood during big storms.
“I have watched other people be stuck under underpasses and things like this, but I’ve never been in a situation like this before.”
The men who were helping Gidluck modestly waved away the microphone when asked for an interview.
This scene was a common one around the areas that were flooded. Wherever a car was stopped in or after the puddles, someone else was either already stopped to ask if they needed help, or stopped almost immediately.
“People in Regina are great,” said Gidluck.
