Rider tailgaters pushed from parking lot near Mosaic stadium

An empty lot near Mosaic Stadium used to be filled with Rider fans barbecuing, tossing a football, visiting and getting ready for the game with a tailgate party.

But this Sunday before the game, there will be a small but determined group of fans who are resisting what it says are the city’s efforts to move them out.

First the City of Regina started ticketing. The partiers thought it was worth the $25 fee.

“Then they started to threaten to tow us. That was when we decided that was more of a risk than we were willing to take, so we decided to park in the parking lot across the street, walk over here and have our own tailgate anyways,” said Chris Pollon.

Pollon and a few friends are stubbornly continuing the tradition. They bring food, refreshments and music, and hope others will park across the street, walk in and help revive the tradition.
 
According to the city, that area is actually a no parking zone, and has been since 2013.
 
It was changed to avoid any liability concerns.
