Delay on Lewvan Drive should already be over: city

Drivers heading down one of Regina’s main corridors are seeing a lot more time added on to their trips.

Construction is underway in the area of Dewdney Avenue resulting in traffic being backed up for several blocks for those heading south on Lewvan. Jason Bateman had to sit through it on Tuesday morning.

“Nobody wants to zipper merge and it’s in one lane and as you’re driving by. Yeah, everyone’s giving you the look like ‘Oh, I’ve been here for a while buddy,'” he explained.
“It just makes more sense. Everybody comes in their own lane and merges in at the end and that’s what I did and I got through it pretty quick.”

He described pretty quick as about 30 minutes. That’s double his normal commute time. Others weren’t so lucky, sharing with News Talk Radio it took them upwards of 55 minutes.

According to the city’s daily road report map, asphalt recapping is being done along Dewdney from Aberdeen to Lewvan. Work started this past Saturday with a timetable of three weeks to complete.

Because that work is just getting underway, director of roadways and transportation Norman Kyle said crews had to close part of Lewvan down. By Wednesday morning, Kyle says there shouldn’t be any interruptions for drivers there.

Rail Work

Beginning Wednesday, drivers in the northwest part of Regina will encounter more construction work, this time from CN Rail as the company makes repairs to tracks at McCarthy Boulevard. It’ll be closed between Mikkelson Drive and 1st Avenue North.

The work is scheduled to be finished within one day, if the weather co-operates.
