After a nearly 20-year hiatus in the Queen City, the burger chain Fuddruckers is making a return.
Businessman Randy Nicolle is behind bringing the restaurant back to Regina for the first time since 1997.
“I believe last time the Fuddruckers company ran into trouble. They closed down all their corporate stores and Regina was a corporate store and the Saskatoon store was a franchisee. So I think the biggest problem was the corporate not necessarily the store in Regina,” he explained.
“There is a bit of a rivalry between the two cities so the one thing that Regina doesn’t have is a Fuddruckers.”
The chain boasts it has the “World’s Greatest Hamburgers” and he stands firmly behind that.
“It’s just top drawer. It’s not fast food, it’s gourmet food.”
While he doesn’t have a location secured as of yet, Nicolle said he is eyeing a spot somewhere in the city’s east end, wishing to capitalize on the heavy flow of traffic in the area.
He hopes to be serving customers by early spring 2016. The store is one of five that will open up in western Canada. Along with the Regina location, Nicolle said there are two Fuddruckers planned for both Calgary and Edmonton.
