Some volunteer firefighters in La Ronge got a nice pick-me-up this week from children in the Lloydminster area as a care package full of snacks and handwritten cards arrived on Tuesday.
“When we opened it up we got an amazing surprise. All the boxes had thank you cards and messages on them. Even the individual granola bars had little notes on them,” said firefighter Terry Beck.

Beck, a volunteer firefighter from Paradise Valley Fire and Rescue said it lifted everyone’s spirits.
“Honestly the only way I can describe it is a bunch of kids at Christmas. Because you look around the in the room full of what were supposed to be hard and tough firefighters, we’re all nothing, but grins from ear-to-ear.”
“We’re in this together” read one of the handwritten notes that was attached to 48 individual granola bars and sealed back into a box.
“Thank you for setting aside your needs and fears.” “Don’t be afraid to cry,” read other notes.
Beck’s crew, which included members from volunteer fire departments in Manitou Lake, Lloydminster and Britannia Wilton had been in La Ronge for nearly two weeks helping protect the community from the encroaching wildfires.
He said he had never been to La Ronge before the fires, but he will definitely be back to visit.
