Backyard fire pits won’t be banned any time soon in Saskatoon, but the city could impose restrictions on when they can be used.
The city’s standing committee on planning, development and community services looked Monday at a number of options relating to backyard fire pits contained in a report from administration.
Committee members rejected the idea of banning fire pits in new neighbourhoods built in Saskatoon. They also voted down a proposal to require people to get a permit for backyard fires.
The committee did vote in favour of limiting backyard fires to the hours between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. That proposal will go to a full council vote on Dec. 18.
