No food shortage in La Ronge, says grocery manager

There does not appear to be a food or fuel shortage in the La Ronge area according to the manager of the the Co-op Marketplace in town.
 
Margaret Floch says her store has been getting weekly deliveries, including chips, bread and produce. So far, it’s been enough to feed the approximately 200 people who she estimates come into the grocery store every day.
 
“They’re allowing essentials like that in; they know that we’re supplying the cooks and everybody with food,” she said, adding crews have been eating in community halls and school classrooms since the evacuation.
 
Floch said a few people have requested things like gourmet sandwiches, but she hasn’t been able to prepare them, partly because La Ronge is still without hot water. For the most part, she said volunteers are content with the groceries that are available.
 
Gas stations have also been getting regular deliveries and managers are closely monitoring the fuel situation, she said.

Floch hopes things can get back to normal soon.

“Every business in town will be suffering. It’s kind of ruining summer for everybody.”
