AJ Jacubec said roster, coaching and penalties held Canada back at the World Juniors.
On the heels of a 48-save performance from Nolan Maier, the Saskatoon Blades blanked the Portland Winterhawks 4-0 Sunday evening.
With the win, Saskatoon has split the first four games of its American road trip.
It’s a first career shutout for the rookie Maier, a 16-year-old thrust into the starting job with an injury to Ryan Kubic.
Offensively Cameron Hebig led the way with a pair of goals, with Josh Paterson and Braylon Shmyr adding the others. Shmyr also had three assists for a four point night.
Hebig’s goals give him 23 in his first 26 games this season. His 41-points is good enough for ninth in WHL scoring.
Saskatoon continues the trip out west with a visit to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
