A young man is dead and another is facing charges after an ATV was stolen from Madge Lake and driven dangerously in the Kamsack area.
RCMP in Kamsack first received a call around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday from an off-duty officer who saw a quad being driven erratically in the town. RCMP say that moments later, the person driving the ATV flagged down the off-duty officer to say that someone had been badly hurt.
One of the passengers on the quad, 18-year-old Brandon Cote from the Cote First Nation, died at the scene.
When on-duty officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the quad had been stolen from Madge Lake.
The driver, 18-year-old Kaylon Tourngeau-Genaille, is charged with dangerous driving causing death, break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000 and theft over $5,000.
Mounties say the other passenger, a 19-year-old man from the Cote First Nation, remains in custody with charges pending.
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate what happened. As per policy, another investigation will be done by the Regina Police Service regarding the involvement of an off-duty officer.
