SaskPower is warning the public about a scam targeting mostly small businesses.
In the scam, someone from a 1-800 or 1-866 prefix calls and asks for money. They say if they do not receive a payment through a pre-paid credit card or Canada Post voucher, the customer’s power will be shut down.
SaskPower never asks customers to purchase pre-paid cards of any kind, and works with customers on repayment arrangements for overdue accounts to avoid disconnection.
If you have any doubts about the authenticity of the call, hang up immediately. To check on the status of your account, contact SaskPower at 1-888-757-6937.
If you have been a target of scammers, contact your local police department and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
