Saskatchewan RCMP are asking people to be on the lookout for a vehicle involved in a violent incident on the side of a major highway early Friday morning.
A member of the Rosthern RCMP detachment spotted a black Cadillac CTS with no licence plate pulled over on the side of Highway 11 around 4 a.m. near Osler.
The officer pulled over and activated their emergency lights, at which point, someone from the Cadillac shot at them, according to a police media release.
The officer reportedly returned fire, then chased the suspect car as it sped toward Saskatoon.
One occupant of the Cadillac was seen by police and is described as a black man with a thin build.
Investigators are also looking to speak with anyone who was travelling on Highway 11, between Rosthern and Saskatoon from 3-5 a.m. Friday, and who may have information.
RCMP reportedly contacted Saskatoon police to assist. Several witnesses told 650 CKOM they saw a heavy Saskatoon police presence on roads leading into the city’s north end early Friday morning.
RCMP reported that as of 3 p.m. Friday neither the car, nor any suspects, had been located.
Police urged people not to approach any vehicles matching the description of the one involved in Friday’s incident. They noted that people may see an increased police presence on Highway 11 as officers continue searching the area.
Anyone who might spot the vehicle or have any other information is urged to call police at 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
