With the name “Prairie Football Conference” it’s fitting the two biggest cities in Saskatchewan will face off for its crown.
The Saskatoon Hilltops host the Regina Thunder for the conference championship Sunday afternoon at SMF Field.
Like nearly every season, the host Toppers are the heavy favourites, looking for a fourth straight PFC title and a chance at a four-peat at the national level.
But the two teams split the season series with Saskatoon winning 37-20 at Mosaic Stadium on opening night. The Thunder answered with a 29-26 victory in Saskatoon.
“We gotta try an do a few things differently because they know us so well,” said Hilltops head coach Tom Sargeant. “They put some good players in good spots and it’s up to us to react properly.”
The Hilltops will also look to put forth a better performance than in the PFC semi-final, a narrow 28-21 win over Winnipeg.
“It was a good lesson for all of us to be aggressive and stay consistent.”
Regina is coming off a 24-21 win over Edmonton in their semi-final, and are the only team to beat Saskatoon in 2017.
Kickoff is 3 p.m. at SMF Field in Saskatoon.
