A decades-old one dollar bill has made its way back to its original owner’s family in Prince Albert.
Grant Kimbley came across the $1 bill from 1973 when a group of teens was about to use it at a convenience store.
Kimbley said he was simply trying to add another buck to his collection when he traded with the teens for the bill, but then he noticed writing on it.
“It has a note saying, ‘This was given to dad while he was in the hospital from Ed Allan,'” Kimbley said.
The note led Kimbley to post to Facebook on Sept. 21, in the hope he’d find the family of one of the two men involved.
“After thinking about it, I wondered, ‘What are the chances somebody might be missing this bill?’,” Kimbley said.
His post was shared more than 200 times, and eventually Kimbley received a message from the family of Ed Allen, who died in 1991.
Kimbley was able to return the bill to Allan’s daughter last Friday.
Without explaining the meaning of the note on the bill, a relative of Allan told 650 CKOM Wednesday the family is “ecstatic” about the find, and that they never expected the bill would be returned.
