‘Fun-loving:’ Victim of Lake Diefenbaker tragedy remembered

Family are remembering a Saskatchewan man who died after a boat capsized on Lake Diefenbaker last week.

Ken Houben, 61, from Loreburn, was one of two men who died after storms caused rough water on the lake south of Saskatoon on July 20.

He was identified publicly in a Saskatoon StarPhoenix Obituary Wednesday.

Over the weekend, his daughter Jackie Tigg made a heartfelt Facebook on behalf of Houben’s children.

“Dad was always the fun-loving person that you went to when you wanted to have a great time. He loved to hunt and he loved his toys,” she said. “I can still hear his laugh and see his smile when he was doing what he loved.”

Higg wrote that her father was always there with a hug and would also offer anyone a helping hand.

“I could sit here all day and tell you all the great qualities our dad had. He was loved by so many people and had so many friends from all over the world,” she wrote.

“I feel the need to add that our dad was one kick-ass mechanic and taught his son his amazing abilities throughout the years.”

The second man who died in the incident has yet to be identified publicly.
