Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation has lifted an evacuation order allowing evacuees from the Pelican Narrows wildfires to return home.
On Wednesday, Chief Peter Beatty rescinded the general evacuation order placed at the end of last month. Due to air quality concerns, the move is only for community members and priority three persons.
The evacuation order remains in place for priority one and two persons, or the elderly, children, pregnant women and those with breathing or general health issues.
Evacuees are required to check in at the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre in Prince Albert, or the Henk Ruys Soccer Centre in Saskatoon, for fuel cards and further instructions.
A release issued by the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation at 2 p.m. Wednesday states evacuees are advised to bring their own groceries whenever possible. Emergency Social Services will cover fuel allotments for personnel vehicles.
Bus transportation begins Thursday. Evacuees will need to reserve their seat by adding their names to sign up sheets posted at the centres in Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
According to the release, the roadblock at the Highway 135 and Highway 106 junction is still in effect. Convoys for up to 60 vehicles at a time will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Schools will re-open on Monday, Sept. 18.
