Gas stations could be a busy spot for Saskatchewan residents on the drive home Friday, as people try to avoid paying more for their weekend fill-up.
Prices at many gas stations in Saskatoon and Regina went up to 99.9 cents per litre Friday morning, but Gasbuddy.com was reporting some still at 90.9 cents in the mid-afternoon.
Gas Buddy Analyst Dan McTeague told 650 CKOM the price jump is due to Hurricane Harvey, a category three storm bearing down on the coast of Texas, closing oil refineries in the area.
“When refineries shut down it hurts all of us in North America at the pumps,” he said.
More than 25 per cent of North America’s gasoline is refined along the Texas gulf coast.
“We are in the early stages on whether gas will go up even more,” McTeague said, warning that flooding in the Lone Star state could lead to another increase early next week.
