Is Premier Brad Wall retiring from politics to help his son’s country music career?

National Post columnist Colby Cosh thinks it’s a worthy question.

“As an artist, you don’t want to have political distractions or political enemies,” Cosh told 650 CKOM Friday afternoon.

Colter Wall’s first album release over the summer drew some negative attention on social media from those expressing anger over his father’s government’s recent budget.

“I think the Premier’s job became a little less interesting and fun,” Cosh said.

“When I think what’s like to be a dad in that position who’s had a very successful career, maybe it’s part of it.”

He admitted it’s a silly theory, but feels there’s a chance it could be true so he wanted to start a discusiion.

“Colter is attracting so much attention in Nashville that it’s not far-fetched,” he said.

“Premier Wall can easily get another job doing less work for more money in the private sector.”

Cosh added the move would take Colter out of the political spotlight, allowing him to focus on singing and writing music.

“It lets him move forward without the suspicion that he has a famous name and a whole province pulling for him,” he said.

“It doesn’t make much difference in the American country music scene, but it will help him in the Canadian one.”

Colter Wall is currently working with Rick Rubin’s American Songs publishing company and is touring Europe for the month of August.
